What is Two Factor Authentication?

2FA is the new standard for securing your digital logins. Traditionally you may have only had a username and password, which while secure (see our password guide here) can be compromised.

2FA adds an extra step in the login process by requiring a unique and randomly generated code to be entered when you log in to your C&B Portal.

At Caleb & Brown, we prefer using the Google Authenticator App to enable 2FA with your associated account for its simplicity and reliability.

How do I download an Authenticator app?

You can download any authenticator app from the Apple App Store. Below we detail how to install the Google Authenticator App.

If you are reading this on your mobile device, you can follow this link to the app store.

Download Google Authenticator on your Apple device

To download the app simply;

  1. Navigate to the Apple App Store

  2. Search for "Google Authenticator"

  3. In the search results tap GET, then tap INSTALL

    • You may be prompted to login to your Apple account depending on your security settings

To enable 2FA, first, login to your phone app, then navigate to the ‘account’ tab on the far left side, then tap the red arrow next to ‘your account’.

At this point you should see a menu appear, please tap on ‘security’

Once the security tab is open, tap on the toggle next to ‘Two Factor Authentication’.

You will receive a prompt to verify your number. An SMS will be sent to the number set up on your account

  • Once you receive the SMS code, enter it in the text field and click on ‘next’.

  • If you do not have a previously set phone number, please get in contact with your broker.

Once you have tapped ‘next’ to confirm your SMS code, you will be prompted to copy a set up key. Please tap ‘Copy secret key’. You will know this has been copied by a little notification at the bottom of your screen, it should look something like this.

Where to paste the set up key.

  1. Open the Authenticator app on your phone and paste your set up key

    • To paste your set up key, press the + button in the bottom right hand side of your screen

    • Click on ‘Enter a set up key’

    • From here you will be asked to enter an account name, you can leave this blank if you choose to it will auto generate a name, or if you would like to add an account name to distinguish your code from the others you can do this too eg. “Caleb and Brown 2FA codes”

    • Now paste your recently copied set up key in the “your key field” and ensure it remains on time based.

    • Once this is done simply click ‘add’

  2. You will be presented with a 6-digit code (this will change every 30 seconds)

  3. You can copy your 6-digit code by simply tapping on it

  4. From here you can navigate back to the app and paste it as shown below:

5. From here you can tap next and you will be met with a confirmation page to let you know you have successfully set up your 2FA.

6.That's it 🎉 you're all set up, now whenever you log in to the C&B Portal you will be prompted to enter a 2FA code

  • In time this code will also be required for various activities in the Portal such as adding and removing wallet addresses, updating information, etc

  • Please ensure the pie chart next to your 2FA codes on the authenticator app is full when attempting to enter them in to provide yourself with adequate time to enter them in.
